*Edited 02.09.12* Masko Jefferson one of the fabulous contributors in my new book 'Zakka Style' has a similiar design that she sells in her fantastic Esty shop! If you don't feel like making one yourself, I'm sure she'd be happy to make you one!

SNAPPY COIN PURSE Tutorial

I
had a little wallet like this that I got in Japan when I was a little girl and
I absolutely loved it! I finally figured
out how to recreate it and thought I would share it with all of you!

They
make great gifts and are perfect for holding coins, carrying hand sewing
notions on the go and more!
You
know you want to make one. *nudge nudge* They're super easy to make and lot's of fun
as well. Especially the hammering part!
Woot! So let's get started! ^_~
Here's what you'll need to make this little cutie:
MATERIALS
Various Cotton Prints (I used a different, coordinating
print for each of the following)
2 – 4 ¼ " x 4 ¼ " squares
1 – 1 ½ " x 8" rectangle
1- 8" x 8" square (for
lining)
Linen (Natural)
1 – 3 ¼ " x 8" rectangle
Fusible Interfacing
2 – 8" x 8" squares
TOOLS
Pattern
1 Dritz Heavy Duty Snap Kit (includes Cap, Socket, Post,
Stud, Metal tool. )
Hammer
Scissors
Awl
Rotary Cutter
Cutting Mat
Water Soluble Pen
Straight Edge
Needle
Thread
Blunt pencil
or small knitting needle (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Note: All seam
allowances are ¼ " unless otherwise indicated.
Make the Exterior

1. Place the 4¼" x 4 ¼" Cotton Print
squares right sides together. Stitch
together along one edge. Press seams in
one direction.

2. Place panel you just created in front of you
right side up. Place 1½" x 8"
Cotton Print on top right side down.
Line up edges and stitch together along 8" edge. Press seams toward 1 ½" x 8" Cotton
Print.

3. Place panel in front of you right side
up. Place 3 ¼ " x 8" Linen on
top lining up 8" edge of 1 ½" x 8" Cotton print. Stitch together along 8" edge. Press seam toward 1 ½" x 8" Cotton
Print. The square should measure 8"
x 8".

Tracing and Cutting
Pattern

4. Fuse interfacing following manufacturer's
instructions to the back of the 8"x8" patchwork square and the
8" x 8" Cotton Print.

5. Print and cut out pattern. I like to fold the pattern in half and place
the crease on top of the middle seam to make sure that my purse comes out
straight. Trace pattern with Water Soluble
Pen onto the interfacing side of the 8" x 8" squares. Cut out shape using marks as a guide.

Assembling the Pouch

6. Place the two pattern pieces right sides
together. Starting with a backstitch at
the bottom straight edge, stitch all around the edge of the pouch and end with
a backstitch. Be sure to leave a 2
½" – 3" opening.

7. With scissors clip off the corners, clip the
curved seams, and clip the inner corners.
Be careful not to cut through the seams.

8. Turn the pouch
inside out. With a blunt pencil or a
knitting needle poke out the corners and the curves. Turn the seams of the opening inside and
press. Using a needle and thread close
the opening with a blindstitch. Press
the pouch.
Adding the Snap

9. 3/8" down from the top of the pouch and
on top of the middle seam, take your awl and poke a hole all the way through.

10. Take the snap cap and push the cap's stem
through the right side of the hole you made.

Place the cap in the smooth side of the anvil.

Place the socket on top of the cap's stem.

Put the metal tool on top of the stem and hammer a few times
to secure the cap and socket in place.
11. ½" down from the bottom of the pouch
and on top of the middle seam, take your awl and poke a hole all the way through.
12. Take the post
and push the stem through the right side of the hole you made. Place the post in the raised side of the
anvil. Place the stud on top of the
post's stem. Put the metal tool on top
of the stem and hammer a few times to secure the post and stem in place.

Finishing

13. Fold two sides up and stitch together
with a needle and thread using a blindstitch.

Repeat with remaining three sides of the pouch.
Clip the threads. Fold it up. Snap it shut.

All done honey bun! ^_^
Enjoy your weekend!
