Planning

Hey there, happy Wednesday!  Two more days until the weekend! *does the robot*  I'll be sitting at my little workstation busy being a mad sewing scientist all weekend though. Fun when it's not work, but unfortunately it IS work.  I've got heaps going on right now and I can't talk about any of it!  Isn't that the worst?  I'm absolutely bursting right now, bursting I tell you! *kapow!*  But I'm going to be a good girl.

Planning_1

I've been doing some planning for some upcoming projects and I think it'll be okay if I share some of that.
Picking fabrics and combining colors is my favorite part of the creative process.  I think I like it even more than the actual creating!

Planning_2

I always tend to combine the colors and such first, and decide on what to make with them after and start making sketches. Maybe it's a little backwards, but it works for me.  I'm usually pleased with the results.

Planning_3

The first two photos are for projects that need to be vibrant and bright.  The last two are needed to have a more "wintery" feel. I'd love to hear your feedback on my color choices.

Planning_4

I'd also like to hear how everyone else's creative flow works.  Do you make sketches, do you make up a color palette, do you just sit down and start sewing and see what happens?  Tell me, tell me! How do you make your works come to be?

Lovely combo's!!! I have that same orange polka dot fabric in yellow that I am planning to make a skirt out of! LOL

As a knitter, I oftentimes just start squeezing yarn until I find something that appeals to me, then grab some needles and go from there. Occasionally I make sketches, but usually it's on the fly.

I love the bright combination at the top. I usually make sketches and even use graph paper a bunch...it's the math in me.

I love your swatch collections, especially the pink and gray at the bottom! Congratulations on your project, whatever it is. :)

I usually do a lot of sketching before I start anything. My daily calendar and legal pads at work are covered in little project sketches. (Sadly, I often have to recopy notes and lists because I've drawn all over my original copies.) I'm picky about my fabric palettes, but I don't usually pick them until after I have a concept in mind.

You do neat little organized color swatches?? I suppose that works a lot better than pulling yardage off the shelf and throwing it on the floor together in piles to see how they work together. :p Which is what I do. And then I think of what kind of outfit it is calling to be. Then I find a pattern that might work, usually have to modify the heck out of it, and put it all together. Wala.

My favorite part is putting the fabrics together, and sometimes I have combos in mind with no idea for a project yet, too. Do you have swatches of all your fabrics? The pinked edges make them look so neat. How inspiring!

Oooh, I love those oranges, they all look so great together. I wish I could be so organized!

My process is pretty straight forward: I decide what I want to make, I draw a little sketch only if I have to do some calculations, I pick the fabric (favourite part as well!!) and I start sewing. It's when I make mistakes that I actually make the most interesting things, because I'm forced to think around the plan. Love your work! :)

i can't wait to hear about your news!! i love your color combinations, especially the orange one.

i usually think about new ideas quite a bit (probably not good for insomnia ;)). i'll get the fabric or other craft supplies that i think i'll need because they're usually a key component of the original inspiration.

then, when i'm ready to start the project i'll make a sketch if it's for something that requires measurements and record those. it's not really legible, but at least i have something for the next time.

Hey!

So I dont have any constructive feedback on the combos besides they look lovely and that I am really loving the "cooler" combos.

As for my process, I normally find the shape of the bag I want and then pull fabric till its coming out of my ears. My process is usually overwhelming but I love it none the less!

I love all the color choices, but I really like the pink shades in the last photo. But I am being bias because pink is one of my favorite colors. I am a newbie sewer so I really don't have a method yet. Although whatever process you use seems to work out really well.
Also waiting for the news!!

I think you were very successful in your color choices. I think what I generally do is come up with my quilting idea- then I draw a loose sketch to remember it for when I actually get to do it. After that I look through what I have to see what may work for fabrics. I have been really good about not buying more fabric lately and it has forced me to try some different color combos that I might not have tried previously.

I always start with the fabric!

I am so curious now what this project is! :) I have a few guesses, but I will keep them to myself :)

Your blog is beautiful and so is you family! I'll be checking back again :)

A rough sketch and then wing it ;-) Your color palettes are edible!

I adore your color choices....... I think they are spot on!

I always start with a sketch. I just can't wrap my mind around an idea without having a picture with notes scribbled about!

I love your work....... the calendar rocks!

I am unbelievlably impressed with your process. It's inspiring.

Your's is on my top ten blogs. Just love it!!

I usually stare at my fabrics 'till my eyes almost pop out and eventually the right idea comes to my mind. That's for bigger project like dresses and such. If I wish to see how different fabrics work together I often make smaller stuf, like hats, hairstuff for the girlies and such:-)

I hope my english is understandable. It is to me, but I'm danish, so what do I know;-)

I'm looking forward to following your blog in the future as well.
